Amirul Haque Amin, President of the National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF) today received the Nuremberg International Human Rights Award for his more than 3 decades long fight for the rights of garment workers in Bangladesh, for the improvement of their living conditions.
Through the Award, they honored the work of Amirul Haque Amin and that of his trade union colleagues and friend in Bangladesh and around the world, achieving the introduction of a minimum wage and the signing of the Bangladesh accord after the "Rana Plaza" disaster in April 2013 where more than 1.100 workers lost their lives.“We are immensely proud to know Amin and to work with him. He is a working class hero.”
Amirul Haque Amin was honoured by the Lord Mayor of Nuremberg Ulrich Maly, the German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel and the Deputy Director of the ILO, Sandra Polaski. NGWF stated that “our Brother was honoured for his relentless and fearless fight for rights of Bangladeshi garment workers to organize, bargain collectively, safe working condition and decent pay.”
